After so much anticipation Apple Inc. finally announces the release of their tap to phone feature for iOS, giving small business owners across the U.S. the ability to accept contactless payments from the security of their mobile device. The launch of Apple’s mobile payment processor will be available to participating payment platforms and their app developer partners to leverage in their software developer kits (SDKs) in an upcoming iOS software beta.
“As more and more consumers are tapping to pay with digital wallets and credit cards, Tap to Pay on iPhone will provide businesses with a secure, private and easy way to accept contactless payments and unlock new checkout experiences using the power, security and convenience of iPhone,” says Jennifer Bailey Apple’s Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet.
Once released, merchants will be able to accept any transaction via e-wallet, Apple Pay and debit or credit card securely thanks to NFC technology. And while Tap to Pay is starting out primarily in one area, Apple has plans to “work closely with leading payment platforms and app developers across the payments and commerce industry.”
Apple is charging full speed ahead into the future of payments with their newest revealment, while simultaneously empowering prospective entrepreneurs in the process. Welcome to the new age of checkout.
